Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's brother James Haven are in a tense competition for her attention, insiders have told In Touch Weekly. Is it possible that James can edge out Brad? Will she have to choose? At the Beowulf premiere in LA, Angelina's brother, James Haven, walked the red carpet and happily answered questions about Brad Pitt.

"We've bonded amazingly," James told reporters. "He's fantastic - we get along great!" But the truth may not be a rosy, according to a report from the magazine. At a private party Angie held on November 5 to celebrate the movie's release, James and Brad stayed away from each other.

"The guys just don't get along, and now it's causing problems for Brad's relationship with Angelina," an insider says. "Angelina blames Brad for not warming up to her brother." But the source clams that James, 34, isn't interested in improving their chilly relationship. "He blames Brad for occupying so much of her time," the insider adds.

"Plus, he thinks Brad is boring. Brad invited James out a few times for drinks, but he always turned him down. He sees Brad as a frat boy and not someone he'd ever be friends with." Angie and James have been extremely close since they were kids, when their father, Jon Voight, left them and their mother, Marcheline Bertrand.

"James was Angelina's protector," the insider explains. "At a young age, he became the man of the house and Angie has never forgotten that. Boyfriends and girlfriends, even their own father, come and go - so they have to be loyal to each other."

Angelina Jolie's adopted Ethiopian daughter was conceived after her mother was raped as she walked home from work, it has been reported.

Two-year-old Zahara was born after her mother, Mentwabe Dawit, was assaulted in the darkness by a man who trapped her on a path outside the southern Ethiopian town of Awasa in 2004.

“He pulled a dagger, put one hand on my mouth, so that I could not scream. He then raped me and disappeared,” Mentwabe told Reuters in Awasa, 170 miles south of Addis Ababa.

The 24-year-old decided to keep the assault a secret.

Her attacker has not been traced.

“I feared the consequences of being raped in a community where rape is considered a taboo, even if what happened happened forcibly,” she said, tears streaming down her face.

Despite her fears, her own mother was supportive and helped her give birth in the family’s earth-floored house.

She named the child Yemsrach, meaning good news in Ethiopia’s Amharic language, but soon found that she could not care for the baby and fled the family home in shame.

“I was desperate and decided to run away, rather than see my child dying,” she said.

Mentwabe’s distraught mother eventually put Yemsrach up for adoption, in the belief her own daughter had died.

Her adoptive parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, changed the baby’s name to Zahara.

Now reunited with her mother, Miss Dawit said that she was very happy that her daughter is now a part of one of Hollywood’s most famous families.

“I think [she] is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world famous lady. I wish them both all the success they deserve,” she said.

ETHIOPIA - The mother of an Ethiopian baby adopted by Angelina Jolie denied that she had ever challenged the adoption, and said she was happy her daughter had found a home with the Hollywood star.

In an interview at her tiny home in the southern city of Awasa, Mendewad Dawid rejected newspaper reports in the United States and Europe this week that she wanted two-year-old Zahara returned to Ethiopia.

Her words had been twisted, she said, by "so-called journalists" who had visited her and claimed to be working for the Oscar-winning actress.

"I have never disputed the adoption," Mendewad told Reuters. "This was a mistake. It was something I never said."

On Thursday, the Ethiopian agency that arranged the adoption said it was "legal and irrevocable" and that Zahara's grandmother had told an Addis Ababa court her daughter was dead.

Speaking on Saturday in her earth-floored house, lit by a single light bulb, Mendewad said she ran away from her home five months after giving birth because she had no food for her baby.

"I decided to flee rather than watch her die," she said.

Her mother searched for her for months around Awasa, 270km south of the capital, but eventually concluded that she must have died and put the baby girl up for adoption.

Jolie, who also works as a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency UNHCR, adopted her in July 2005. She adopted a Cambodian refugee boy, Maddox, three years earlier.

"I think my daughter is a very fortunate human being to be adopted by a world-famous lady," Mendewad said.

"I wish them both all the success they deserve."

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The battlefield extravaganza "Beowulf" laid waste its rivals at the weekend box office in North America, according to first-day sales estimates issued on Saturday.

Director Robert Zemeckis' effects-heavy interpretation of the Old English poem earned $9.7 million on Friday, tracking firm Box Office Mojo (http://www.boxofficemojo.com) reported.

The $150 million film, released domestically by Paramount Pictures, is on track for a weekend haul in the upper $20 million range, in line with expectations. The similarly themed "300" opened to $71 million in March.

British actor Ray Winstone stars in the title role as the dashing warrior who battles demons, a dragon and Angelina Jolie around the 6th century A.D. "Beowulf," a hybrid of animation and live action, is playing in both traditional and 3-D theaters. The film's foreign distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures, opened it during the weekend in such key markets as Britain, Germany and South Korea.

Actress Angelina Jolie was bashful after seeing herself in a simulated nude scene in her animated movie Beowulf.

The Tomb Raider star — who plays a temptress killer lizard, painted gold and fitted with a tail — admits the motion capture technology was so shockingly real, she phoned her partner Brad Pitt to warn him about the nudity in the family movie.

She says, “I was really surprised that I felt that exposed. There are certain moments where I felt actually shy and called home, just to explain that the fun movie that I had done that was digital animation was, in fact, a little different than we expected.

I didn’t expect ourselves to come out as much. I didn’t expect it to feel as real, and so because of especially the type of character I play, it was kind of funny at first.” The stunning actress is playing the mother of Grendel the evil monster in a movie adaptation of the classic tale of Beowulf, and in one scene appears in nothing by golden paint.

In a scene, Angelina can be seen emerging from a lake completely naked, but covered in a golden sheen. The movie does, however, utilise a new photo-realistic animation style, so Ange’s stunning curves may have got a little help.

London, Nov 16 : The Ethiopian adoption agency which conducted Angelina Jolie's adoption of her eldest daughter Zahara in 2006, has come out in support of the actress over claims that the little girl's family wants her back.

Relatives of the two-year old, including a woman who claims to be her birth mother, are demanding that Zahara be returned to them.

However, Tsegaye Berhe, the head of Wide Horizons for Children, which conducted the adoption, insists that it was "legal and irrevocable", reports the Daily Mail.

The row started after Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, who the woman claiming to be Zahara's biological mother, told America's In Touch magazine earlier this week she wanted her daughter to 'come home to regain her identity'.

"I want my daughter to come home to see where she is from. Her grandmother and I both tried very hard to raise her, and I want her to come home to regain her identity," she said at the time.

Ms Lebiso also revealed that Zahara had been conceived when she was raped by a stranger who broke into her home. After she gave birth, she was so overwhelmed that she ran away, leaving the baby behind.

Her mother then allegedly signed the baby over for adoption.

However, the family now insists that they were misled over the adoption, and that the official who had taken Zahara away had assured them that they would see her again and maintain contact with her. But that has not happened.

"My mother was very sad. At one point she was even thinking of trying to find a way to bring her grandchild back. But she has no money, so she can't," Mentewab said.
