20 Jan 2008 - Angelina Jolie and Oscar - Perfect Together
Newsweek has put together its 2008 Oscar roundtable including Angelina Jolie, George Clooney, Daniel Day-Lewis, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard and James McAvoy.

Angie on A Mighty Heart:

“I was comfortable when Mariane [Pearl] was comfortable. But I wasn’t so comfortable the first day of shooting, when I realized his style was so unbelievably raw. There is often no rehearsal, no one saying “cut.” For example, you have three different rooms, and we would go into one room and we’d be talking, say our five lines, and he’d film us. Then I’d go pee, and I’d come out, and the camera was still on. So I’d think, “OK …” Then I’d say my five lines again, and that would turn into 10 more minutes of talking, and then someone would go get something from the kitchen and I’d go to my bedroom, and he’d follow me and he just wouldn’t leave. It was really odd. But it became just the most perfect way to shoot that film. It was chaos in that moment. It was very intimate, and my big fear was that something horrible might happen and the camera would be like this. [She gestures as though there’s a camera right in her face] But everybody was absolutely connected in every single moment. Even when we’d have lunch, we’d have it together at the table, or we’d all go for a walk together. We were just always present in the film. And so as an actor it brought me back to loving acting, and that was just great. But he does cross a line. One day one of the girls got sick and threw up, and he said, “Next time, tell us.” So he can be a little crazy. But I absolutely adore him.”

13 Jan 2008 - Sex Scene Tension: Brad Pitt Wants To Be On Set With Angelina Jolie?
Talk about a buzz kill. A report from In Touch Weekly magazine claims that Brad Pitt is a bit jealous of Angelina Jolie's on set love scenes and wants to be on the set when she is filming so he can keep an eye on things. The magazine has a report in this week's issue that claims that even though he's recently tried to dissuade Angelina Jolie from taking risqué roles like her turn in Wanted opposite James McAvoy, it didn’t work.

Angie reportedly even asked the film’s writers to beef up Wanted's sexual tension. So Brad’s come up with a new strategy that may be a tough sell. “He wants to be on-set when Angelina is filming a sex scene," the pal reveals. Is that a bit much?

The magazine brings in a relationship expert named Dr. Gilda Carle and she warns that Brad’s actions could backfire. "Angelina may start to resent all the holds he wants to put on her," she explains. “Angelina and Brad fell in love while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” says an insider. “He doesn’t want history to repeat itself.”

Jolie is one of the few actresses in Hollywood who admits that she actually enjoys on-screen sex. “A physical thing is, for some people like me, very easy,” Angelina, 32, said recently in the U.K.’s Total Film magazine. “You find something about that person that you love…and you just enjoy each other. You’re two adults and you know that it doesn’t mean anything.”

But Brad, 44, doesn’t feel the same way. “Brad’s very private and doesn’t enjoy filming sex scenes,” a friend says, adding tat he wishes Angelina felt the same way he does.

13 Jan 2008 - Actors await Globe winners list
Hollywood is bracing itself for the Golden Globe winners list which is being announced at a news conference in Los Angeles later.

The glamorous red carpet ceremony and dinner, which takes place annually, has been cancelled because of the current writers' strike.

Actors had said they would not cross picket lines in support of writers.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has been on strike since over royalties for work distributed online or DVD.

Political satire

On Friday, the writers announced they would not picket the news conference after it was decided the event, which had been scheduled to appear as an exclusive NBC broadcast, was made available to all media.

The broadcast will now feature TV entertainment show anchors from various outlets announcing the awards in 25 categories.

The dispute, which began in November, has brought production of nearly all US TV comedy and drama shows to a standstill.

British film drama Atonement leads the race after being nominated for seven prizes including best film.

The movie's stars, James McAvoy and Keira Knightley have been shortlisted, as has director Joe Wright.

Helena Bonham Carter, Julie Christie and Daniel Day-Lewis are among the other UK film stars with nominations.

Hugh Laurie, Ricky Gervais and Minnie Driver are also in the running after being nominated for their TV shows House, Extras and The Riches.

The other films which appear in the best motion picture drama category include, Sir Ridley Scott's American Gangster, David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises and the Coen brothers' No Country for Old Men.

The other shortlisted dramas are Denzel Washington's The Great Debaters, Michael Clayton, starring George Clooney, and oil industry saga There Will Be Blood.

Three musicals are nominated for best comedy or musical - the Beatles extravaganza Across the Universe, Hairspray and Sweeney Todd.

Political satire Charlie Wilson's War and teenage pregnancy comedy Juno complete the category.

Oscars guide

Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster, Christie and Angelina Jolie complete the best actress category.

Clooney, Day Lewis, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington join McAvoy in the competition for the best actor gong.

Bonham Carter, meanwhile, is nominated for Sweeney Todd, as is her director and partner Tim Burton and co-star Johnny Depp.

The Bee Movie, Rataouille and The Simpsons Movie are all competing for best animated feature film.

Former Brookside star Anna Friel, meanwhile, is up for best comedy actress for her US show Pushing Daisies and Ex-Cold Feet star James Nesbitt also gets a consideration for his role in the BBC's Jekyll.

The hour-long news conference will take place at 1800 local time on Sunday (0200 GMT Monday) in Beverly Hills.

Although the Globes are viewed as a form guide for the Oscars, in recent years the awards have thrown up false leads.

For the past three years, none of the Golden Globes' best movie drama winners have gone on to win the best picture Oscar.

29 Dec 2007 - Angelina Ranks as Most Respected Humanitarian Celebrity
Actress Angelina Jolie has won out for the title of most respected celebrity “do-gooder“ this year.

Angelina Jolie has won. Not an Oscar, but to some, a much better reward. The beautiful actress-turned-humanitarian was ranked as the topmost respected humanitarian celebrity this year, as 2007 comes to a close. The poll was conducted by Reuters' humanitarian website, Reuters Alertnet (www.Alertnet.org), which praised Jolie's efforts as a U.N. ambassador and person of the people.

Jolie is an ambassador for UNHCR, a refugee agency through the U.N. She has received high praise for her work, including from UNHCR spokesman Peter Kessler, who described Jolie as someone who "... goes out to see for herself, to get up close and very personal. She doesn't travel with film crews, and I think that is real testimony to her dedication to the cause." Reuters reports that Jolie has visited over 20 top spots of need, including Iraq.

Reuters reports that singer Madonna was voted the least respected celebrity humanitarian. News of her adoption of a child from Malawi was met with mixed reactions, as some believed the adoption to be part of her history of short-lived fads. Paris Hilton ranked right behind Madonna for least respected humanitarian.

The poll, held December 7-19, put Jolie ahead of longtime humanitarian advocate Bono. Bono has raised awareness of AIDS and African suffering over the years. According to Reuters, Bono came in as the second most respected celebrity humanitarian and was also ranked in the "top five celebrity do-gooders people love to hate." Six hundred six people were involved in the poll.
